No "Slips and Falls" Here

img_success_150"In the first year I placed my workers' comp coverage with AmCOMP, I reduced my loss ratio from 108% to 16% and significantly lowered the cost of my insurance. As the owner of a small family-owned restaurant, that was real important to me; and I owe it all to your loss prevention program.   My employees were always slipping on the wet kitchen floor or cutting themselves with the sharp knives, and I had no idea what to do to reduce our number of claims.  I was really worried about their safety, too.

Melissa [an AmCOMP loss prevention specialist] showed up for a site visit, and she spent a lot of time with me.  She seemed interested in my business and what I had to say.  She took notes and watched my employees work in the kitchen.  Within a few days, she came to see me again; and this time she had a list of simple things I could do to improve my safety record.  We purchased the non-skid mats and non-slip shoes she recommended and bought the cut-resistant gloves for the kitchen help to wear, too.  It was so simple – why didn’t I think of that myself?  Your loss prevention program helped me save money and made my employees safer. Thank you, AmCOMP."

How AmCOMP Did It...

A long-term partner agent brought us this account that had very high loss ratios, resulting in very high workers' compensation expenses.  Waterway Café, a family restaurant in North Palm Beach, Florida with 90 employees, had a high frequency of "slips and falls" and cuts.  Due to the size of the business, they did not have a safety director and did not know how to reduce their workers’ comp claims.

Our loss prevention personnel visited the restaurant and determined that a few simple procedures could help dramatically reduce the frequency of their injuries.  We recommended that they put non-skid mats in the kitchen and employees wear non-slip shoes.  We also recommended they purchase cut-resistant gloves to eliminate the injuries, including amputations of fingers that had occurred in the past due to sharp knives.

Simple, yes, but effective.  In the first year working with this account, AmCOMP helped them reduce their loss ratio, which resulted in a significant savings in the cost of the restaurant's workers' compensation insurance.
